It's nearly 2026, and as you look ahead to the calendar changing over later this week I want to talk about New Year's Resolutions.
I've never been a big fan of New Year's Resolutions, my feeling was always "Why wait for the New Year to commit to something you know you need to do?" Because here's the thing: you need to have good habits in place in order for your goals to be successful. It's maybe just how my brain works, I never found the New Year to be particularly motivating.
What I do find motivating is to look at my life and see ways where I can start small to make a big impact over the next year. Something I learned a while ago was that in truth the little things are the big things:
You lose weight (and keep it off) by committing to regular exercise and eating healthy meals, not by following an unsustainable crash diet.
You show up for your loved ones by diligently managing your calendar with important events, not reacting as things come up.
You keep production running smoothly by staying on top of daily time approvals, not by waiting and reviewing all the time stamps at the end of the month when you can't remember the details.
At GROW! 2026 in Dallas, TX on February 10-12, 2026, Chris Psencik and I will lead a breakout session where we'll detail which little things teams need to stay focused on to be successful. We'll share the little habits that we know from our work at Grunder Landscaping Co. and with our ACE Peer Group Members add up to a well-run and profitable company.
As you look ahead to the New Year, rather than setting some big resolution I would instead encourage you to look at your own habits. How are they serving you or hurting you? What small thing could you commit to doing daily that would help you be more effective in your role? Here are a few places I'd recommend starting:
For Operations Teams: implement a morning huddle to get everyone on the same page daily
For Salespeople: schedule time for following-up. This is often where we're actually losing winnable sales!
For managers: make sure your 1:1s are scheduled and then commit to not skipping them.
Chris and I will share more good, little habits that set great teams apart from good ones during our breakout session at GROW! 2026. If you aren't registered to join us, go ahead and take care of that now: buying your tickets before Wednesday night will keep the expense on your 2025 books!
I'll talk to you next week!
