After years of hovering around the same topline revenue number, Grunder Landscaping Co. will end 2021 with nearly 40% revenue growth year over year, and we're positioning ourselves for growth again in 2022 and beyond. So how did we do it?

We have better data.
After going live with Aspire Software on January 1, 2020, we have better data on what jobs are profitable and a better idea of our costs than we ever had before.

We're able to be more granular, especially on our overhead costs. Before Aspire all equipment costs were in one bucket, equally applied to all jobs. Now, the equipment we need for design-build jobs is no longer counted in the overhead for maintenance jobs, giving us greater clarity into how profitable maintenance can really be for us. We're able to be more competitive with our pricing, while still being profitable, and win more commercial maintenance jobs as a result.

I love to say good managers make good decisions with good information. In 2022, what can you do to make better decisions? It’s rooted in the information you have. Get better information, and you can make better decisions, it’s as simple as that

We've changed our attitudes.
Instead of replying to new ideas with "Yeah, but" and "What if", we instead approach ideas with positivity. Our team is excited about the growth, and the opportunities that come with it, and we're looking for solutions instead of pointing out the problems. As a result, we're finding growth by doing three things we haven't focused on in the past: commercial snow removal, performing lawn care applications ourselves, and expanding our service area into the suburbs of Cincinnati.

This has been a big culture change, and I have to credit our Chief Operating Officer, Seth Pflum, for it. He's led by example and the results speak for themselves.

I always get a little reflective in the final weeks of the year, and this year I'm looking back with a lot of gratitude to my team and a ton of hope for the future. The market is in our favor, and with the right data and the right attitude, anything is possible.

We'll go in-depth into our strategies for growing smart, and go behind the scenes of a rapidly growing landscaping company at GROW! 2022 in Nashville, TN on February 23-25, 2022. I'll lead a session with more detail about how exactly GLC has grown this year, and we'll have sessions to help you tackle any barrier to growth you face: hiring team members, putting processes into place, managing your team effectively, and more. Register now to join us, investing in your team's education is a great company Christmas present too 😊

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, I'll talk to you next week!
