To be successful in the green industry, there are some non-negotiables for sales teams. These skills and attitudes are the difference between salespeople who achieve their objectives and set their teammates up for success and those that struggle.
The good news: most of these skills are teachable 😊 Here’s what we’re encouraging our team at Grunder Landscaping Co. to do.
Ask people questions about themselves, and note down what they told you in your CRM when you get back to your vehicle after the meeting. Keeping notes on personal details helps if you tend to get people mixed up or struggle with what to say the next time you see someone – when you arrive at the next sales meeting, you can review your notes to jog your memory.
There are so many tools out there today that there’s truly no excuse for sending a bad email. Our team uses Chat GPT or Copilot to refine our emails before we send them so that we ensure emails have the tone we want them to, are clear and concise, and are professional and free of errors.
Our best salespeople at Grunder Landscaping Co. are the ones who are passionate and genuinely enjoy what they do. They come to work with a great attitude, excited to bring more projects to life or sell a maintenance contract that cares for plants the right way.
An attitude is something we can control, and especially this time of year I know that the hours can get longer. Here’s my advice: the seasonality of our business may mean that you have to work some nights and weekends in the spring and summer, it may also mean that your hours can be a little shorter in the fall and winter. As with everything in life, there is a give and a take. Try to stay in the mindset that this is a temporary season, and that the hard work now will pay off in commissions. The opportunities are much more plentiful in the spring - we need to maximize those now.
Even the best salespeople could use a refresher on skills, and that’s why we offer virtual sales training to fit any team or team member. We have three offerings this year:
Sales training is available on-demand through Greenius for teams that want self-paced education.
The Landscape Pro's Sales Training will be available live (virtually) on May 13-14 to give teams tactical help maximizing this season.
Our Virtual Sales Manager Bootcamp will be live (virtually) on July 8-9.
Do one or all of these sales trainings - they'll set you and your team up for success in 2026.
